ANNUAL BURNING PERMITS -

 

Annual Burning Permits are required for open burning within the Cowichan Bay Improvement District between April 1 and October 31. These permits are for Category 1 Fires (Backyard Burning, Campfire, Incinerators, etc…) A Category 1 open fire means an open fire that burns piled material no larger than 1 meter in height and 1 meter in diameter and includes a campfire. A person may light or make use of a Category 1 open fire when:

  • They have an Valid Annual Burning Permit

  • There are no other restrictions in place for doing so;

  • Doing so is, and will continue to be, safe;

  • Reasonable precautions are taken to ensure the fire is contained;

  • The person is equipped with at least one fire fighting hand tool and attends the fire to prevent its escape;

  • The person carries out fire control and reports the fire if it spreads beyond the burn area; and

  • The person ensures the fire is extinguished before leaving the area.

  • These Permits are available for a cost of $2.00 at:

    Cowichan Bay Fire Hall,
    4461 Trans Canada Highway,
    Cowichan Bay, BC

    Sunday Mornings - 9:00am - 11:00am
    Monday Evenings - 6:30pm - 9:00pm
